Winning Hourly Challenges

Short timeframes need a completely different playbook.

In this lesson

01

The 60-minute mindset

Hourly challenges are the fastest, most exciting format in StockPrince. The strategy is completely different from longer formats. You need stocks that are moving right now — not stocks that might move eventually.

The key metric is intraday momentum: which stocks are already trending, have volume confirmation, and have a catalyst to continue.

02

Look for momentum stocks

Stocks already moving up (or down, if you're bearish) at market open tend to continue. Check pre-market action — stocks with big pre-market moves on high volume often carry that momentum into the first 1-2 hours of trading.

The best hourly-challenge stocks have: volume 2x+ above average, a news catalyst (earnings, upgrade, product launch), and are in a trending sector.

Pre-market momentum

NVDA
+4.2%
5x avg
AMD
+2.8%
3x avg
AAPL
+0.3%
1x avg
TSLA
-1.1%
1.2x avg

TSLA gaps up 3% pre-market on delivery numbers. Volume is 4x average. This is an ideal hourly pick — catalyst-driven momentum with volume confirmation.

03

High beta picks

Beta measures how much a stock moves relative to the market. Beta 1.0 = moves with the market. Beta 1.5 = moves 50% more than the market.

For hourly challenges, you want high beta: NVDA (1.7), TSLA (2.0), AMD (1.6), META (1.3). These stocks amplify market moves — exactly what you need in a short window.

Avoid low-beta stocks (JNJ at 0.5, WMT at 0.6) in hourly challenges. They won't move enough.

04

Concentration over diversification

With only 60 minutes, spreading across 5 stocks dilutes your edge. Go 50-70% on your best pick and use 1-2 supporting picks from the same momentum theme.

If tech is rallying, go NVDA 60% / AMD 25% / MSFT 15%. Don't add JNJ "for safety" — in 60 minutes, safety means mediocrity.

Common hourly mistakes: (1) Picking "safe" stocks in a speed format. (2) Equal-weighting all 5 picks. (3) Ignoring pre-market movement and choosing based on name recognition.

Practice

Scenario 1 of 3

+15 XP

It's 9:25 AM. An hourly challenge starts at 9:30. Pre-market: NVDA +4.2% (AI chip news, 5x volume), AAPL +0.3% (no news), TSLA -1.1% (no news), AMD +2.8% (sector sympathy).

How do you build your portfolio?

Scenario 2 of 3

+15 XP

It's 10:15 AM during your hourly challenge. NVDA (your 60% pick) has suddenly reversed and is now flat after being up 3%. AMD (your 25% pick) is still up 2%. 45 minutes remain.

What do you take away from this situation?

Scenario 3 of 3

+15 XP

Two hourly challenges are available. Challenge A starts at 9:30 AM (market open). Challenge B starts at 2:00 PM.
